Notes:

1:00 session MOTIVATION via TRACKIING, two types
What percentage is mastering the class objectives?
What do I do to motivate them?
How aware are they of what they are able to do.
………………
Teacher-centered tracking
  • Spread sheet
  • Easiest, guides instruction, shows where teachersisbombing, which students needs what, graphs and Excel spreadsheets, not a gradebook On our disk: task, 3points if he can do it yet
  • Class tracking----have friendly competition between several different sections, make a graph of this, also track growth, mention and give kids credit for growth.
  • transparent tracking 3-4 big ideas for whole year
kid-friendly language, put on wall, keep private, put kids’ numbers on wall instead of names---empower them
chart shown had numbered tests. Each kid had a surfer sticker with their name/number on it. As they did the task, they got a sticker by the numbered test
give each kid an animal, as they say something in the target language, give them a sticker, when the animal is full, give them a new sticker
Student tracking
Unit goals, 5 Cs goals, chat, students color it in when THEY feel that they can do this. Every day, have them share their fill in goal and their proof.
Give assessments and them have them fill in your grades
Give them a list of goals, have them pick their timeline to finish it, their level general 80%, or get them to raise their goal
Have t hem take control of their own learning.
Elementary chart: Rainbow with ‘I can’ statements, includes pictures of tasks, they color it in when they are ready to pass it off
HS chart ‘Mu French Standards Mastery” State standards
Students will now approach you and ask to pass this off (in a test).

Why tracking:
Motivation, realize when they are using the language
Mastery = 80% in general. Teacher tracks self, works more on it if they do not reach it.
Can be raised or lowered for certain students, special ed.
