About the Presenters



Paul Sandrock, assistant director for the Content and Learning Team at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, works directly with the state consultants in all subject areas. Prior to this, Sandrock served as the DPI consultant for world languages education and taught Spanish (grades 7–12) for 16 years. His work in the area of assessment includes the standing committee for the Foreign Language National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and the ACTFL Integrated Performance Assessment project. The chief author of Planning Curriculum for Learning World Languages and co-author of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development’s publication Essentials of World Languages, Grades K–12, Sandrock received the Prentice Hall/NCSSFL State Supervisor of the Year Award and has served as ACTFL president and a member of the ACTFL Board of Directors.

Toni Theisen, 2009 ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year, teaches French at Loveland High School in Loveland, CO, where she is also the district world languages curriculum supervisor. She is a National Board Certified Teacher with a MA in Foreign Language Teaching and French from the University of Northern Colorado and a MA in Education of Diverse Learners from the University of Phoenix. Theisen has presented many workshops on Multiple Intelligences, Differentiated Learning, and 21st Century Technology. She recently chaired the 2009 revision of the Colorado Standards for World Languages and served as the co-chair for the revision of the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards for World Languages. Her honors include the ACTFL Nelson Brooks Award, The Colorado Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the SWCOLT Outstanding Teacher Award. As an ACTFL Board of Directors member, Toni served as the program chair for the 2004 and 2005 annual conferences.


  
Laura Terrill holds a BA in French from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a MA in Secondary Administration from Northeast Missouri State University. She taught French at all levels for 21 years before becoming the coordinator of foreign language and English as a Second Language and then, director of curriculum in the Parkway School District in St. Louis, MO, before taking early retirement to join her husband in Puerto Rico. She has taught methods courses at Washington University and Butler University and has been active at the local, state, regional, and national levels. She served as the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages delegate to the ACTFL Board of Directors and was the 2006 Program Chair for the ACTFL Convention. She recently taught high school French in Indianapolis and is currently working as an independent consultant in world languages and ELL.
